History of fondue

Let’s talk history first:

Fondue originated in Switzerland in the 18th century. It was originally made by melting cheese over a flame until it was thick enough to be transferred into a communal pot and served with bread cubes for dipping. This is known as “classic” fondue today.

As time went on, people began experimenting with new types of cheese and sauces and cooking techniques so they could make more than just melted cheese (which has its place but gets boring after awhile). Thus came gourmet fondues like wine-based ones that use red wine instead of white wine, or chocolate-based ones
